Refund & Cancellation Policy

Last updated: 12 September 2026

This policy explains what happens to money you have paid LawMitran. It covers each thing you can pay for separately, because the rules genuinely differ between them. It describes how the platform actually behaves today — not an aspiration.

The short version

  • You can cancel a lawyer subscription at any time. Cancelling stops future renewals; it does not refund the period you have already paid for.
  • Document templates are refundable only before the document is delivered to you. Once you have the document, the purchase is final.
  • If an automated document check fails for a technical reason, you get free retries. If it still cannot be completed, you can request a refund of that fee.
  • Statutory charges — stamp duty and registration fees — are never refundable by LawMitran, because we do not collect or keep them.

1. Lawyer subscriptions

Advocates pay a subscription to receive client requirements. Plans run for a fixed term chosen at checkout, and the price and term are shown before you pay.

Cancellation

You can cancel from your dashboard at any time, and cancellation takes effect immediately for future billing — nothing further is charged. Your profile stays visible in search after cancellation; what stops is the delivery of new client requirements.

Refunds

Subscription fees are not refundable for the term already paid for, in whole or in part, including any unused portion. This is because the subscription gives access to leads as they arrive across the term rather than a fixed deliverable. Where a subscription includes a free trial, you are not charged during the trial and can cancel before it ends at no cost.

The one exception is a billing error on our side — a duplicate charge, a charge after a valid cancellation, or a charge for a plan you did not select. Write to us and we will correct it.

2. Legal document templates

Document purchases are priced per document and the total, including any taxes and any optional add-ons, is shown before payment.

  • Before delivery — if you have paid but the document has not yet been generated or made available to you, tell us and we will either complete it or refund the charge.
  • After delivery — once the document has been generated and made available to you, the purchase is final and not refundable. This mirrors section 6 of our terms of use. A document is a digital deliverable; we cannot take it back once you have it.
  • Something wrong with the document — if the document we generated does not match the answers you gave, or a technical fault produced a broken or incomplete file, that is our problem to fix. Contact us and we will regenerate it, correct it, or refund it.
  • Not a ground for refund — deciding you no longer need the document, choosing the wrong template, entering wrong details yourself, or a counterparty refusing to sign.

Stamp duty and registration charges

Stamp duty, e-stamping charges and registration fees are statutory amounts payable to the government or to a government-authorised provider. LawMitran does not collect or retain them as its own revenue, and cannot refund them. Once a stamp is issued or a registration is filed, any refund is governed by the relevant state’s rules and must be pursued with that authority.

3. Lawyer review fees

Where you pay for an advocate to review a document, the fee is shown before you pay and most of it is passed on to the reviewing advocate.

  • If no advocate takes up the review, or the review is not delivered, the fee is refunded.
  • Once the review has been delivered, the fee is not refundable. An advocate concluding that your document has problems — or advising against what you planned — is the review working, not a failed service.
  • Review refunds are processed by our team on request rather than automatically.

4. Automated document checks (AI Document Check)

Where this service is available, you pay per case and the amount is fixed at the time you place the order, so a later price change does not affect an order already placed.

If the check fails

A check can fail for technical reasons — an unreadable upload, a processing error, a service interruption. When that happens:

  • You can retry free of charge. You are not charged again for a retry. There is a limit on the number of free retries and a time window for using them; the case page tells you how many you have left and until when.
  • Once the free retries are used up or the window has closed, you can request a refund of the check fee from the case page.
  • A refund request is reviewed by our team, not paid out automatically. We will either approve the refund or grant you another retry if we think the check can succeed. If we decline, we will tell you why.
  • Approved refunds go back to the original payment method through our payment gateway. The gateway and your bank control how long the credit takes to appear.

If the check completes

Once a check has run and produced a report, the fee is not refundable. The report is a preliminary, informational read of the documents you supplied — it is not legal advice, a title opinion or a clearance, and a report that raises concerns, or finds nothing unusual, is the service having been delivered either way. See our legal disclaimer.

5. Failed and duplicate payments

If money left your account but the order did not complete, LawMitran has not received a completed payment and you have not been charged by us. Your bank or the payment gateway reverses that amount on its own — this is outside our control and we cannot speed it up. If the reversal has not appeared after a reasonable period, send us the payment reference and we will take it up with the gateway.

Genuine duplicate charges — the same order paid twice — are refunded. Send us both payment references.

6. Client requirements are free

Submitting a legal requirement and being contacted by an advocate costs nothing, so there is nothing to refund. Any fee you agree with an advocate afterwards is a matter between you and that advocate: LawMitran does not collect it, does not hold it, and cannot refund it. If you have a dispute about an advocate’s fees, raise it with the advocate, and if needed with the relevant Bar Council.

7. How to request a refund

For automated document checks, use the refund request option on the case page — that route carries the case details with it and is the fastest. For everything else, or if you cannot reach that option:

  • Write to support@lawmitran.com or use the contact form.
  • Include the payment reference or order ID, the date, the amount, and what went wrong. Without the reference we cannot identify the payment.
  • We will tell you whether the refund is approved and, if not, the reason. Approved refunds are returned to the original payment method.
  • Unhappy with the answer? Escalate through our grievance page.

Nothing in this policy takes away any right you have under applicable Indian law, including the Consumer Protection Act, 2019. Read alongside our terms of use and pricing.
