What is a Consumer Complaint Draft (District Commission)?

A consumer complaint is the petition you file before a Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission against a seller or service provider for a defective product, deficient service or unfair trade practice. Under the Consumer Protection Act, 2019, complaints worth up to ₹50 lakh go to the District Commission.

Complaints can be filed where you live or work, not only where the seller is based, and can be filed online through the e-Daakhil portal. A complaint generally has to be filed within two years of the cause of action.

When to use it

  • A legal notice to the seller or service provider has not resolved the matter.
  • You want a refund, replacement or compensation for a defective product or deficient service.
  • You were subjected to an unfair trade practice such as misleading claims.
