What is a Driver Employment Agreement?
A driver employment agreement records the terms on which a vehicle owner employs a personal or commercial driver: salary, duty hours, weekly off and leave, responsibilities for the vehicle’s safe use and upkeep, and how either side can end the arrangement.
It also records the driver’s licence details, which the owner should verify, since an owner who lets an unlicensed person drive can be liable under the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988.
When to use it
- You are employing a full-time or part-time driver for your car.
- A small business employs drivers for its vehicles.
- You want duties and liability for fines and damage agreed up front.
