What is an Employment Offer Letter?
An employment offer letter is the employer’s written offer of a job to a selected candidate. It states the designation, department, reporting manager, compensation (CTC), proposed joining date, and the conditions the offer depends on — such as background verification and documents.
It is shorter than an employment agreement and is typically followed by the full agreement or appointment letter on joining. Candidates usually sign a copy to accept.
When to use it
- You have selected a candidate and want to make a formal offer.
- A candidate needs a written offer to resign from their current job.
- You want to set out the headline terms before the detailed agreement.
