Stamp paper required — non-judicial stamp paper of the value prescribed by your state. You'll receive the draft; e-stamping is done separately per your state's rules.

What is a LPG Connection Indemnity-cum-Affidavit?

LPG distributors ask for an indemnity-cum-affidavit before releasing a new domestic connection or transferring an existing one. It does two jobs at once: you declare on oath that nobody in your household already holds a subsidised connection, and you indemnify the distributor and the oil company if that turns out to be untrue.

The declaration matters because subsidised domestic LPG is limited to one connection per household. The oil companies de-duplicate against Aadhaar and address, and a second connection found later is disconnected and the subsidy recovered.

When to use it

  • Applying for a new domestic LPG connection from an Indane, Bharatgas or HP Gas distributor.
  • Transferring an existing connection to your name after a family member’s death or a change in the household.
  • Transferring a connection to a new address after moving city.
  • The distributor asks for an indemnity bond or affidavit as part of the Know Your Customer file.

How it works

  1. Confirm the household position first

Check that no one ordinarily residing with you already holds a subsidised domestic connection. If someone does and it is being surrendered, say so to the distributor rather than leaving it out.

  2. Get the distributor’s exact name

Use the distributor’s registered name as it appears on their board or on the oil company’s locator, along with the right oil marketing company.

  3. Preview and download

Check the draft, pay ₹49, download the PDF.

  4. Print on stamp paper and notarise

Print on non-judicial stamp paper of your state’s value and swear it before a Notary Public with your original ID.

  5. Submit it with the connection file

Hand it to the distributor along with your address proof, identity proof and Aadhaar, and the existing consumer’s documents if it is a transfer.

How to make it legally valid

  • Non-judicial stamp paper of the value prescribed by your state — some distributors specify a value of their own, so ask before you buy.
  • Sworn in the physical presence of a Notary Public.
  • Notary’s signature, seal and register entry.
  • The address in the affidavit must be the address where the connection will be installed, and must match your address proof.
  • Where the distributor or the oil company publishes its own indemnity format, use theirs.

Stamp paper. Print the affidavit on non-judicial stamp paper. The value is fixed by your state, not by us — commonly Rs. 10 in Delhi and Uttar Pradesh, Rs. 20 in Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, Rs. 50 in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, and Rs. 100 in Maharashtra and Gujarat. Ask the stamp vendor or your notary for the current value in your state: using a lower denomination than required is the most common reason an affidavit is handed back.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Declaring no other connection when a family member at the same address holds one. Oil companies de-duplicate and the connection is cancelled.
  • A connection address that differs from the address proof submitted with it.
  • Getting the distributor’s name wrong, or naming the wrong oil company.
  • Using a domestic connection commercially — in a shop, a paying-guest kitchen or a tiffin service. That is a breach of this undertaking and of the LPG control order.
  • Ignoring the distributor’s own printed format when they have one.

Frequently asked questions

Why does the distributor want an affidavit at all?

Subsidised domestic LPG is limited to one connection per household. The affidavit puts your declaration on oath and gives the distributor and the oil company an indemnity if it turns out to be false. It is a standard part of the connection file.

What documents go with it?

Typically proof of identity and proof of address for the applicant, Aadhaar, and passport-size photographs. For a transfer, also the existing consumer’s subscription voucher, the termination voucher if the connection is being surrendered, and the death certificate where the transfer follows a death.

Can I hold two LPG connections?

Not two subsidised domestic connections in the same household. You may hold a non-subsidised or commercial connection alongside a domestic one, subject to the oil company’s rules — disclose it to the distributor rather than omitting it.

How do I transfer a connection after the consumer’s death?

Apply to the distributor with this affidavit, the death certificate, the subscription voucher, and — where other legal heirs exist — their no-objection. Distributors usually ask for a legal heir declaration too if the household has more than one adult heir.

Can I transfer my connection to another city?

Yes. Surrender the connection at the old distributor, collect the termination voucher and the security deposit refund, and apply to a distributor at the new address with this affidavit and your new address proof.

What stamp paper value should I use?

The ordinary affidavit value in your state — commonly Rs. 10 to Rs. 100. Some distributors specify a particular value for indemnity bonds, so ask them before buying the stamp paper.

Does it have to be notarised?

Yes, in practice. Distributors treat the unnotarised version as a plain undertaking and will normally ask for notarisation before releasing the connection.

What happens if I use a domestic cylinder commercially?

It breaches both this undertaking and the LPG control order. The connection can be disconnected, the subsidy recovered and penal action taken under the Essential Commodities Act. Commercial use needs a commercial connection.

Can a tenant get a connection in their own name?

Yes. A rent agreement or a landlord’s no-objection letter is usually accepted as address proof, along with your identity proof. Confirm with the distributor what they accept.

Do I need this affidavit for an Ujjwala connection?

The Ujjwala scheme has its own application and eligibility declaration. Some distributors additionally ask for an indemnity-cum-affidavit; follow what your distributor asks for.
