What is a No Objection Certificate (Vehicle Loan Closure)?
A no objection certificate for vehicle loan closure is issued by a bank or financier once a vehicle loan has been fully repaid. It confirms there are no dues and that the financier has no objection to the hypothecation being removed from the registration certificate.
The owner then applies to the RTO (Form 35, usually online through Vahan) to remove the hypothecation. Until that is done, the RC still shows the lender’s interest, which blocks a sale or transfer.
When to use it
- You have repaid your vehicle loan and need the lender’s NOC.
- A financier needs a standard NOC format to issue.
- You are selling the vehicle and must clear the hypothecation first.

How to make it legally valid
- Issued on the financier’s letterhead, signed and sealed by an authorised officer.
- Registration and loan numbers matching the RC and loan records.
- Submitted to the RTO for hypothecation removal while it is within the validity the RTO accepts.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Waiting so long to apply to the RTO that the NOC has to be reissued.
- Registration number that differs from the RC.
- Not collecting the original RC with the hypothecation removed.
